Race course will be ridden in the counter-clockwise direction. The course will start on the criterium course heading downhill before taking a right hand turn down a grass hill to a gravel road. Participants will make a hard left-hand turn into the singletrack and pass the historic Carhartt Mansion (see below pic) as you weave your way through the singletrack. After the fun twisty singletrack, you'll race down a gravel road and back onto the criterium course where you climb past Heckle Hill and onto the finish line.
Carhartt Mansion
The Carhatt Mansion was built around 1912 by Hamilton Brakeman and Annette Welling Carhartt. Hamilton and his father-n-law started Welling & Carhartt in 1882 near Detroit, Michigan. In 1889, he changed the company to Hamilton Carhartt & Co and converted to manufacturing exclusively workingmen's clothing. Hamilton purchased his first of two Rock Hill textile Mills in May of 1907 and starting purchasing farms in November of 1907. After building the mansion in 1912, the Carhartt's purchased addtional property, eventually owning 1,200 acres along the Catawba River where they grew alfafa, corn and cotton and bred Arabian horses, polo and Shetland ponies, Berkshire hogs, sheep and cattle.
